Windows Vista 64 bits... Faaast...
Hey wow !

I'm on Windows Vista 64 bits...

It was a very rough start but then things just got progressively better.
Let me tell you that many photo applications are VERY fast.
Wow, what a bonus ,,, it made it all worthwhile.

Plus my 4 gigs of memory is now fully active :)
Thinking of 8 of course.

Had problems with my Outlook PSt file {crc error} but that was my fault.
-had to change 1 Video card which wasn't 64 bit compatible. { I went for a 512mb Sapphire HD}
-had to change my anti-virus/anti-spam.

Now to have some fun with this.

what video card did you have before? is it compatible with Vista 32bit?

A Radeon 9250.
No, only XP compatible...

But beware....
On the new graphics card box it was written Vista certified...
It means nothing.
The actual proper driver only came out 2 days ago ! {at least for 64 bits.}
The MS site also says its fine but neglects to say it was tested !
Hmm, you have to see the link above to understand.

My father loaded Vista when it was first released and it was a disaster. I figured that as tiem went on, other applications would be updated so as to 'play nicer' with Microsoft's new OS.

Thank you for giving me hope. :-) I cannot afford it this payday, but just might bite the bullet and purchase the Vista OS next month. Of course, I will also have to increase memory, but I'm desperately in need of that anyway. I've been running Photoshop CS2 on 1GB with very large files! eek!

Congrats on a successful launch of Vista!

Probably good advice...
Actually, it is good advice :)

Thks ;)
But I would wait {see below} if I were you...
Part of my speed increase is due to the 64 bit processor.

Also it wasn't real "easy" by any means... :)

True but PS starts up in 3.8 seconds...

One of Vista's primary speedup techniques is caching disk files, etc in RAM. OSX has for years now. After you said that, I got curious and tried launching CS3 on my 32bit 1.6Ghz Core Duo Mac Mini (by no means a high-end machine, in fact the cheapest one they sell). The second launch (after starting CS3 then quitting it and starting it again) was a mere 3 seconds.

Haha, you're smart, I guess I can't fool you... yes it was a second launch but that's super fine with me...

Here's another bonus... and I'm really not sure how they do this one...
Lightroom loaded 915 pictures extremely fast. At least 10-20 times faster than before. That's a major bonus, at least for me :)

Now I'm going to check if you have a new series out :)

hope you can still run all the software you need using that os...

So far 90% of it works...
Remember you can still run 32 bit programs..
